Here are some of the signs to look for that might
indicate potential Sexual Abuse in Children.

Watch for these signs. Experiencing some of these signs may be an indicator that
a child has, or is being sexually abused.


  • Nightmares. Waking up during the night sweating, screaming or shaking.

  • Masturbation. excessive sexual self-gratification and masturbating.

  • Aggressive Behavior. Showing unusual anger and aggression toward family members, friends,
    toys,  and pets.

  • STDs. showing symptoms of a sexually transmitted disease such as complaining of pain while
    urinating or having a bowel movement, or the presence of genital infections or odors.

  • Physical Trauma. Having symptoms indicating evidence of trauma to the genital or anal area.

  • Wetting the bed. suddenly starting wetting the bed for no other reason.

  • Bulimia or other eating problems, including unexplained gagging.

  • Fear of a certain places or locations.

  • Frequent unexplained health problems.

  • Engaging in persistent sexual play with friends, toys or pets.

  • Panic. Having unexplained periods of panic, which may be flashbacks from the abuse.

  • Regressing to behaviors too young for the stage of development they already achieved.

  • Initiating sophisticated sexual behaviors, sexual acts inappropriate to his or her age.

  • Fear of Certain People. A sudden reluctance to be alone with a certain person.

  • Self-mutilation. such as sticking themselves with pins or cutting themselves.

  • Withdrawing from previously enjoyable activities, like school or school performance change

  • Asking an unusual amount of questions about human sexuality.

potential abuse.
